Wiring solar panels is the first step, you have to choose between series and parallel depending on your voltage and current needs. A solar panel array (or photovoltaic array) is necessary when a single panel is not enough, allowing you to combine their power.

While wiring solar panels in parallel, the positive terminals of different solar panels are linked together. The same is the case with the negative terminals of these panels. The voltage remains the same in a parallel connection, whereas the total current adds up (increases).

How to connect a solar panel to an array?

With the use of a junction box, it becomes easy to connect the solar panel to array. Usually cables with MC4 / MC5 connectors at the end are used. A good junction box keeps corrosion at the terminals to a minimum, as it will exclude water coming in. When purchasing solar modules, always have a look at the IP rating of the PV junction box.
